Vignette: To Autumn

wbLakeOntariobwblue-tintVignette: “To Autumn”
Strolling along the shoreline in the gritty, damp sand, wind howling like a tormented ghost, one wave after another rolling in, I search for an image on the empty beach, something that will capture the mood and tone of autumn. It’s a peaceful, relaxing, meditative stroll. The solitude of my walk an elixir of the spirit, especially after spending yesterday alone in the confines of the house on a quiet street, listening to the trumpet and saxophone of jazz. In the distance, I see a lifeguard stand, and so I stroll closer. The sign on the back of the rusty metal stand reads “No Lifeguard On duty.” I think—-the empty beach, the lifeguard sign, the cold air, the barren setting, the wind in my face, the foreboding waves—they capture my autumn. So, I frame the image in my view finder, set the aperture to shallow depth of field, adjust the telephoto lens, press the shutter button. The digital SLR camera records a moment of autumn’s passing time. –Dave H

You set the tone for more cold wintery blizzard days ahead. I am imagining crackling firewood and hot cup of tea as I read this!
