This Moment of Your Life

This Moment of Your Life by Dave Hood

The past, a collection of memories.
Forgotten, boxed in the crawl space.
The past, a haunting ghost, wreaking havoc in your life.
The past, just more sorrow, making you weep.

The future, always a mystery,
unknown until it unfolds, no matter what you dream.
The future, a lit candle,
flaming out by an unexpected gust of wind.

This moment, forgotten like the last,
another opportunity to sleepwalk, live mindlessly.
There’s tomorrow, you tell yourself.

This moment, always a gift
to awaken—
to see, to hear, to smell, to touch, to taste, to feel
to experience the wonders and mysteries and awe
of your passing life.
