Letting Go

wbLetting Go

By Dave Hood

It has become a clichéd expression,
Yet these words echo wise truth:
You must learn to “let go.”

Let go of love
that has departed,
cannot be rekindled,
still torturing your psyche.

Let go of sorrow,
such as a death of a loved one,
still causing you grief.

Let go of haunting memories,
like the time you slept with a stranger,
screamed offensive words at your mother,
the day you were fired from work you loved.

Let go of those who have
wounded your pride
drained you of spirit,
expressed ill-will,
anyone who has insulted you.

Embrace the sage advice,
listen attentively to these clichéd words,
allow them to convince your “ego”
to “let go.”

By letting go of your unalterable past,
faded by the passage of time,
now just a memory,
You will set yourself free,
like a hawk soaring in a blue sky.
