Centerfold Diversion

By Dave Hood

During March break, at Newport Beach,
on a sunny, sultry day, as hot as the desert,
Fat men with beer bellies, pale skin,

and plump, grey haired wives dressed
in frumpy one piece bathing suits, sit
slumped in lawn chairs, sprawled out
on beach towels, soaking up the sun.

While a group of young, slender, muscular men,
dressed in surfer shorts, wearing sunglasses,
listen to “rock ‘n roll” on a portable radio,

toss a white Frisbee back and forth,
drink ice, cold beer to pass the time.

Then a sexy, young, big-busted woman,
with long, slender legs, an hour glass figure,
skin tanned like brown leather,

wearing only a skimpy, black bikini,
strolls along the beach, in the hot
sand, like a centerfold in Playboy magazine,

past these these fat old men, who wish
their plump, grey haired wives were young again.
Their wives daydreaming of young, muscular men.
