Prose Poem: Betrayal

By Dave Hood

My love—you have muddied our good name, tarnished our tidy reputation, imploded our envied lifestyle, cut up into small pieces our loving family, broken the bond of trust, obliterated our tender friendship, saddened me beyond words of description.

You’ve pierced my heart with a sword, eviscerated my soul with a knife, cut off my limbs with a hack saw, dumped what remains of my corpse, my life, my spirit,on to the side of a gravel road, then driven away.

All for what? Needs that I cannot meet? Burning lust? Love of another? All for what?
